Bonus time. Now, for this week's offering.
My prayer
Enough depression already
Let's dream
Go first class on an Amtrak
En route to someplace I've never been
To see someone I've never met
In person
But have known for a long time
A trusty laptop for info
The cell phone I swore I'd never had
For my mom
Another notebook for analog transparency
Capturing where I am at the moment
Free of debts
Free of demeaning looks
Nothing to bring me down
Just life and all its adventure
All by myself to enjoy
And explore
Where am I?
It doesn't even matter

Monday's Son - 2/6/12
Here's this week's bonus poem. Something I actually wrote today.
Ricky, please lose my number
Nicely cauterized
With the finality
Of a pointed pen
Thus ends the lesson
Don't confuse a great first day
With a relationship
Still, you have to try
What kind of person would you be
If you didn't
Just to be able to say
You did
Some token moments of magic
Undercut by a familiar
Capricorn chill
That's the way you'll probably remember it
Reinforcing the notion you realized
A long time ago
But willingly wiped from your memory
Which is
No matter how much
You want
Or hope
It will work
Don't ever date
Your mom or your dad
Ricky, please lose my number
Nicely cauterized
With the finality
Of a pointed pen
Thus ends the lesson
Don't confuse a great first day
With a relationship
Still, you have to try
What kind of person would you be
If you didn't
Just to be able to say

Undercut by a familiar

Reinforcing the notion you realized

But willingly wiped from your memory

You want
Or hope
It will work
Don't ever date
Your mom or your dad

Monday's (Wednesday's) Son
Here's this week's bonus poem.
A Ten Minute Monologue with Flat Fives
If I ever start drifting into
Electric Joni land
Please stop me
Long before I start sporting a beret
And chain smoking my ego
It's a dangerous line to walk
For anyone who wants to express themself
Based on their experiences
The big misunderstood difference
Between
Self-aware and self-absorbed
The former finds one
As a satellite that's rotating around
A mess of other worlds
You can't escape from
And the latter puts you at the center
Of all other worlds
That are probably trying
Desperately
To escape
From you
A Ten Minute Monologue with Flat Fives
If I ever start drifting into
Electric Joni land
Please stop me
Long before I start sporting a beret
And chain smoking my ego
It's a dangerous line to walk
For anyone who wants to express themself
Based on their experiences
The big misunderstood difference
Between
Self-aware and self-absorbed
The former finds one
As a satellite that's rotating around
A mess of other worlds
You can't escape from
And the latter puts you at the center
Of all other worlds
That are probably trying
Desperately
To escape
From you

Monday's Son
Here's your bonus poem for the week. Enjoy. If you dare.
Put me on a highway
Surrounded by the folks
Who would put down Fancy
Call Cher a gypsy or a thief
The ones who have no idea
How hurtful they are being with
Indifference
Or quiet disparagement
The coldest of the cold hearted
Giving Hank
More than enough reasons
To drink
Put me on a highway
Surrounded by the folks
Who would put down Fancy
Call Cher a gypsy or a thief
The ones who have no idea
How hurtful they are being with
Indifference
Or quiet disparagement
The coldest of the cold hearted
Giving Hank
More than enough reasons
To drink

Monday's Son (01/16/12)
Here's this week's bonus poem. Right, right, right on time.
The opposite of Madonna
Something is telling me
To sit tight and shut up
For now
Don't wish too hard
For anything in particular
Dreams should be unspecific
Goals should be ambiguous
Instead of being determined
To control the situation
Just pull out your pad and pencil
And scribble at will
Stare out the window
At the scenery
And leave the driving
To us
The opposite of Madonna
Something is telling me
To sit tight and shut up
For now
Don't wish too hard
For anything in particular
Dreams should be unspecific
Goals should be ambiguous
Instead of being determined
To control the situation
Just pull out your pad and pencil
And scribble at will
Stare out the window
At the scenery
And leave the driving
To us

Poetry Videos
Here's the two poetry videos I've already made, in case you missed them on youtube.
We mean it, man
Early October 09
Monday's Son
Here's this week's bonus poem. Hope you enjoy.
Consider the lillies? What fucking lillies?
This is no place for a philosopher
Or someone who considers the state of mankind
It's strictly carrot or stick around here
One or the other
Will get you in the end
Happy to be part of the machine
At least it's a job
They say
As they turn on the showers
With no safe haven except within
I brave my face as best I can
Trying not to let the loneliness and anger
Register my expression
Although it's a failed pursuit
Besides
Everyone's already made up their mind
That I'm either the town crier
Or the psycho next door
Consider the lillies? What fucking lillies?
This is no place for a philosopher
Or someone who considers the state of mankind
It's strictly carrot or stick around here
One or the other
Will get you in the end
Happy to be part of the machine

I brave my face as best I can
Trying not to let the loneliness and anger
Register my expression
Although it's a failed pursuit
Besides
Everyone's already made up their mind
That I'm either the town crier
Or the psycho next door

Monday's Son
Every Monday I'm going to be posting a poem here that wasn't included in my book. It'll be a depository of sorts for b-sides that haven't found a home yet. Here's the first one. I hope you enjoy them.
Fishful Thinking
I wish I was in a fishing show
Not because I love the sport
In fact
It bores me to distraction
No, I wish I was in a fishing show
Because of its standards and practices
No one yells
You're alone on the water
The scenery is pleasant
The weather's usually the same
And there's plenty of time to think
I definitely wish I was in a fishing show
Right now
Rather than having to worry about
Being run down
By a cyclist on the sidewalk
Who's in more of hurry than me
And who breaks
For no one
